That’s not the only use of email. Proper use of an IM client requires that the other person actually be on the other end at the time. Travis always bitches to me that I don’t have auto-accept on for file sends (and I never will). Email is mainly useful for exactly those situations, when the communcation CAN’T be done immediately.

I agree though, that I hardly ever use it in lieu of direct communcation.
