An environmental solution by Graeme.
People, especially eco-terrorists, often attack SUVs as the ultimate example of America doing its best to destroy the environment. Well, as of today, I can officially say that people who own giant trucks and SUVs will be doing the environment a favor. Iâ??ll explain how.
Itâ??s obvious to anyone who drives on our streets that nine tenths of the people who own these trucks, covered or otherwise, never use them for anything that a compact sedan couldnâ??t do. All that space back there, and for what? I know; I used to get mad about it to. I also hated the way the things drove, but thatâ??s another story. So, I was thinking of a solution that didnâ??t involve criminal destruction of someone elseâ??s property, when it came to me. Victory gardens! Remember that awesome idea from World War II? We could re-apply it today!
With the Green Revolution due to eventually lose steam, and the amount of people on the earth constantly growing, we need to examine possibilities for new food production. Almost all of the worldâ??s arable farm land is already in use. What, then, should we do? Well, think of all those truck beds. When you add them all up, it must come to hundreds of thousands of acres! With a little potting soil, certainly you can see the implications.
Open-bed truck owners could fill their bed with dirt and grow seasonal crops, without having to worry about watering them or anything. They would get plenty of natural exposure to sunlight and water from being exposed to the elements all the time. SUVs and trucks with camper tops are an even better solution, since they would act as natural green houses thanks to the acres of glass the things have. Imagine, your Excursion only gets a few miles to the gallon, but every few months you can ride down to the farmerâ??s market, sometimes in the middle of winter, with a few pounds of strawberries, straight from your cargo area!
So, there you go. All of those polluting trucks would be reformed individuals, producing food and even oxygen . The owners would even reap a tidy profit from selling what they grow. Itâ??s the perfect solution for everyone!
