It’s been awhile since you’ve had a Halloween story. Here’s one.
At the end of January 2006 I set about on what was going to be an unplanned, and almost two-year, fiction writing sabbatical. There were a lot of things causing this. Seminar papers and a senior thesis were the first major cause. I wouldn’t call it writer’s block, ever. Just lack of drive.
Well, I have some of that back. This story was written as a way to shake off the rust from the gears and get them grinding into their old motion. It’s not the best story I’ve ever written, and I cheated a tiny bit to get the old machinery working again, but I like it. It’s good. And they’ll get better again, assuming my Master’s Thesis doesn’t beat me to death. But that’s neither here, nor there.
This is a rough first draft. It has not been edited. It will be, and after deciding what I want to do with it, a second draft may be posted on Jux.
Your story tonight is presented in easy-to-view PDF format. It is not being offered under the site-wide Creative Commons license. It is fully copyrighted. Doing anything with it against my permission will result in your legs instantly breaking and your entire bloodline being put on the Do Not Fly list. Just a warning.
